Butt
Augmentation: Overview
A
businesswoman in her late 30s is contemplating on undergoing butt
augmentation. After 10
years of sheer hard work and hard-earned money,
she now wants to make her dream a reality. Meanwhile, an upcoming male
model in his 20s is also opting for butt
enhancement procedure to
complement his rock hard abs and muscular thighs. The former finds her
derriere too flat, while the latter too small. Both are considering buttock
implants surgery.
What
is Buttock Implant Surgery?
Is
an aesthetic procedure
that involves the surgical insertion of artificial
implants into the buttocks to
enhance and/or change their
size and shape. It is frequently sought by women who are unhappy with
the size of their buttocks. Others feel their buttocks
lack shape,
while some want to have a more sensuous backside, by making them larger
and rounder. Men who have underdeveloped buttocks can benefit in this
procedure, as the implants can provide them with a more balanced
figure.
“Round
and shapely buttocks is perceived to be sexy, youthful and attractive.
The size and shape of the buttocks have significant influence on the
aesthetics of the torso for both men and women. Round, shapely butts
can make our waist and thighs look smaller, thus giving us more
proportionate figure,” says Dr. Alonzo.
Moreover,
it is the preferred
method for patients who do not have excess fat stores, or whose excess
fat is not sufficient to allow for buttock enhancement by fat
injection.
Besides having
realistic expectations and wanting to improve your appearance, you have
to be 20 years or above, in good physical health and psychologically
stable to qualify in this procedure.
What will be
discussed during the initial consultation?
Before you undergo the buttocks
augmentation, Dr. Alonzo
will ask you questions
about your medical history and general physical condition. He stresses
the importance of heart-to-heart talk during your initial consultation,
as butt augmentation
is a highly personal decision, not his. You should
be ready to discuss with him your wishes and expectations and desires
like how large and shapely you want your buttocks to be, and all your
concerns in the procedure such as pre-to-post-surgery care, the
advantages, risk and complications associated with butt implant
surgery, and cost.
There are wide choice of implants varying in size, surface, filling and
shape. But we always use implants filled with a highly cohesive
silicone gel. These prostheses feel very natural and cannot leak in the
event of tearing. Buttock implants are firmer than female breast
implants and softer than male pectoral prostheses.
This type of implant ensures the most natural result. Dr. Alonzo will
also explain the type of anesthesia he will use during your surgery, if
it’s general anesthesia or local anesthesia with
sedation.
How
butt augmentation is done?
Dr.
Alonzo will make an incision in the butt
area, through which an implant
is inserted under each buttock
muscle, where scars are not
noticeable.
(The implant is rounded, anatomically similar to a teardrop or oval,
and shaped like an egg.) After performing the same procedure on the
other buttock, the doctor makes sure the buttocks are symmetrical and
look natural, then he stitches up the incisions. The wound inside is
sutured in layers with dissolving thread. However, for the skin, the
doctor will use a non-dissolvable thread.
Butt
implant surgery usually takes about 2 to 4 hours to complete. The
length of procedure varies according to the technique used, placement
of the implants, the patient’s anatomy and type of anesthesia
used. Usually Dr. Alonzo performs this procedure at the hospital with
an overnight stay.
What can I
expect after the surgery?
After the operation, you will wear a compression garment to provide
support and minimize inflammation. This garment should be worn day and
night for the next few days following your surgery. Buttock
augmentation stretches the
tissue, so expect pain especially within the
first 48 hours. It is important to take the medications prescribed to
you before and after your surgery to help you cope, prevent infection
of the incisions and hasten the healing process.
Swelling and slight bruising are normal, but they will gradually
diminish after several weeks. The stitches will come out within a week
to ten days. You can go back to work after a few days of rest, but
avoid physical exertion like exercise, lifting things or playing sports
within a month or two until the soreness subsided. Avoid sleeping on
your back (only on your side or belly) and sit up straight during the
first 6 months following your surgery. Refrain from activities that
require sitting on your buttocks for long periods of time like lengthy
flights, car rides, and the likes, also for a period of 6 months.
Dr. Alonzo will continue to monitor you for the next 6 months to check
your healing progress. It will take several months before the buttock
muscles become fully stretched
to accommodate the implants, then
gradually your buttock will feel tight until your skin has adapted to
its new buttock size and
shape. Result varies from
person to person.
Most of our patient says that they see a good impression of the final
result after three months, while some took longer.
Note:
Pre- operative laboratory works is required for this procedure.
Laboratory test needed includes: Clotting time bleeding time, Chest
X-ray, CBC w/ platelet count, and ECG. Medical clearance from
cardiologist is also required.
