Liposuction
in the Philippines
Are
you feeling depressed lately because when you look in the mirror you
see flabby thighs and arms, a sagging chin and a tubby tummy? You have
tried mountain climbing, jogging and enrolled in aerobics and taebo
classes, and eat a healthy diet …but still nothing
worked. Now you decided to end your problem by trying
cosmetic surgery. If so, Liposuction
is for you.
Liposuction
also known as lipectomy
is a surgical technique that can help redefine the body by removing
unwanted fat deposits from the chin, neck, upper arms, chest, hips,
tummy, waist, buttocks, thighs, knees, ankles and calves. It basically
targets the areas of fat bulges or irregularities that cannot be
removed by diet and exercise. However, the best results are achieved on
persons who are of normal weight with firm, elastic skin or who have
pockets of excess fat in specific areas and are not grossly over
weight. Liposuction
surgery aims to improve
body shape rather than helping with
weight loss, or cure for general obesity.
Before
liposuction
procedure, you will have an
initial patient consultation with Dr.
Alonzo, which will include a history, physical exam and psychological
evaluation, and may order blood test to determine clotting time and
bleeding time, etc. It is important that the person opting for this
procedure should be in good general health and free of heart or lung
disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and certain allergies.
Dr. Alonzo will also discuss with you how the procedure is done, the
benefits and advantages, including the possible risks and
complications, among others. He encourages his patients to ask
questions, and that they are also satisfied with his answers to those
questions. He believes that it is the right of every patient to be
properly informed to prepare him or her during the pre-operative
preparations up to the post-operative care. He points out that
liposuction can help enhance your physical appearance and
self-confidence, but it will probably not give you your ideal
body.
The
Liposuction
surgery:
Dr. Benjamin Tan
Alonzo has performed
hundreds of major liposuction
cases with proven safe record.
Our
patients have enjoyed great results with no major complications.
Liposuction
is done in an accredited hospital with a 1-day 1-night
stay. However, liposuction of
smaller volumes is usually done
at the
clinic as an outpatient. Liposuction
operation takes from 60
minutes up
to three hours, but extensive procedures can take longer. The length of
time required to perform the procedure varies with the amount of fat
that is to be removed and the number of areas to be treated, and also
with the manner in which the anesthetic is injected. Dr. Alonzo states
that they (surgeons) consider liposuction a mild surgical procedure.
“Besides the anesthesia, you are either asleep or lightly
asleep when it is done, so don’t worry about the pain. Focus
on the outcome, how good it can make you look and feel, but
don’t expect too much because there are limits to what
liposuction can accomplish. Due to all recent advances, we can now
precisely target fat areas which help to reduce recovery period of our
patients, and healing can occur quickly.” Stitches will be
removed in 5 to 10 days. Antibiotics will be prescribed to prevent
infection.
What
can I expect after the surgery?
The
recovery period is very short. Our patients are able to return to work
within 4 to 5 days. We advise a special garment (girdle) to be worn for
3 weeks to assist in the final shaping of the tissue due from
liposuction.
There will be swelling and bruising, but these will
subside within three weeks; however, you may still have some swelling
several months later. Swelling is a result of excess fluid and blood
accumulation, and generally comes from not wearing the compression
garments.
Sensations
such as numbness or tingling, and pain are common during the first few
days after the surgery, but it can be managed with medications. Dr.
Alonzo suggests their patients to walk as soon as possible after
surgery to help prevent blood clots from forming in their legs. After
the first week, most exercise is permitted, except for jogging and
high-impact aerobics. Swimming also can be started one week following
liposuction.
However, more strenuous exercise should also be avoided
for about a month after the surgery. He will check your progress
through follow-up visits after 5 to 7 days following your surgery.
Some
people also gain weight after the surgery, but don’t be
bothered. This is just due to the increase of fluid from
surgery. You will start to feel better after about 1 or 2
weeks. By three to four weeks after the surgery, a good amount of
healing has taken place, but improvement will not become more visible
until about 4 to 6 weeks. You will notice that as the weeks passed,
your new body shape is beginning to emerge, unbelievable as it may
seems!
You
can help maintain your new shape by eating a healthy diet, exercising
regularly coupled with healthy lifestyle too. A contoured body shape
compliments a healthy looking skin, so to speak. You may want to stop
smoking too…the better.
Note:
Pre-
operative laboratory works is required for this procedure. Laboratory
test needed includes: Clotting time bleeding time, Chest X-ray, CBC w/
platelet count, FBS and ECG. Medical clearance from cardiologist is
also required.
