DERMABRASION
Dermabrasion
= is a surgical procedure that improves and minimize the appearance of
acne scars, pox marks, tattoo scars, wrinkled skin and correct scars
resulting from an injury.
Dermabrasion
involves mechanically scraping off the top layers of the skin using a
special surgical instrument. The removal of superficial skin makes a
healthier skin to come up and produce smoother texture and tighter
skin. The surgery takes around one hour under local anesthesia as an
outpatient basis.
After the dermabrasion
procedure,
expect your skin to be red and swollen for a few days. A
prescribed medication is recommended to help reduce any discomfort.
Swelling will go down within 1 to 2 weeks and may cause aching,
tingling, and itching as the new skin begins to grow. The newly formed
skin, which is pink at first, gradually develops a normal color. In
most cases, the pinkness largely fades by 2 to 3 weeks. If the skin is
healed, makeup can be used as cover-up.
Normal activities
can be resumed 1 to 2 weeks after the surgery. Direct and indirect
sunlight should be avoided for 3 to 6 months and it is important to
protect the skin by using sunscreen regularly mostly on outdoors
activities.
